These attacks, the official noted, gave new testimony to the world of the “aggressive nature of U.S. policies in the Middle East and Washington’s complete disregard for the norms of international law.”

Russia is working for an “urgent consideration of this situation in the UN Security Council,” remarked Zakharova, who added that the airstrikes are aimed at a “further aggravating the conflict.”

“By attacking almost without pause the alleged targets of pro-Iranian groups in Iraq and Syria, the United States is deliberately trying to drag the main countries of the region into the conflict”, the spokeswoman denounced.

On the night of February 2-3, the United States launched massive aerial bombardments in Iraq and Syria against 85 targets it described as linked to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and associated forces.

Washington claimed this was in retaliation for the attack on the U.S. military base in Jordan.
