According to Syrian media, Al-Dahak expressed that stance at the ceremony to hand over his credentials to UN Secretary General António Guterres at the organization’s headquarters in New York.
Syria, as a founding member of the United Nations, expects more support in the humanitarian and development fields, and in the implementation of early recovery projects, in addition to providing basic services to the people, the new ambassador said.
Al-Dahak expressed Syria’s support for the Secretary General’s efforts to promote, implement and uphold the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.
Guterres, in turn, reiterated his firm commitment to continuing to work to meet the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people and implement early recovery projects.
He wished security and stability for Syria and well-being for its people, and highlighted the history and cultural heritage of the nation, which has received many refugees for decades.
