The issue was discussed at the National Assembly in a colloquium organized by the France-Cuba Friendship Group and the Institute of Higher Studies on Latin America (IHEAL), a forum aimed at promoting a reinforcement of the presence of French companies in Cuba for the benefit of its population.
Both the Chair of the Friendship Group Andre Chassaigne, and head of the Cuba Cooperation France (CubaCoop) Association Victor Fernandez described as unacceptable that big banks do not support French companies and investments in Cuba.
“We must act before the Government, and we will do it, because we cannot allow France to bow to the extraterritorial US behavior, the communist legislator stressed.
Meanwhile, Fernandez denounced that there are French banks that go beyond rejecting transactions with Cuba, and proceed to close accounts due to ties with the nation.
“The European Union (EU) has protection mechanisms against extraterritorial laws and we demand that they be complied with,” the representative of an organization boosting decentralized cooperation with Cuba detailed; the movement has been conducting dozens of socioeconomic projects for almost 30 years.
