Venezuela ready to activate commission on Barbados agreements

Caracas, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) The head of the Government delegation for dialogue with the opposition, Jorge Rodríguez, stated today that Venezuela is ready for the activation of the commission for monitoring and verification of the Barbados agreements.

In a press conference from the Legislative Branch, the deputy reported that last Saturday he and the representative of the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), Gerardo Blyde, received a communication from the head of the facilitating delegation of Norway, Dag Nylander.

He explained that he suggested -in follow-up to the partial agreement on the promotion of political rights and electoral guarantees for all -the formation, in a peremptory manner, of the monitoring and verification commission, which, he stressed, was approved by President Nicolás Maduro.

Rodríguez stressed that the response of the Bolivarian Executive is to make a “new attempt to maintain and sustain” the postulates of the Barbados political agreement, signed with the PUD on October 17, 2023, despite everything “attacked and go outside the constitutional channel.”

If it were the first time, he commented, there would be some type or form of astonishment, but it is not the first time, and he denounced that “there is always a compulsion to repeat, to get away, from their arrogance, arrogance and hatred”, of the established agreements and the constitutional line.

Venezuela is ready for the verification and monitoring commission of the Barbados agreements to be convened and formed, emphasized the also member of the national leadership of the United Socialist Party.

He indicated that the President’s intention is to give him “an opportunity, to breathe oxygen into what was established” in the agreements signed there.

“We have many things to show this commission,” he stated, adding that it will be made up of Norway, the accompanying countries and the negotiating delegations of the ruling party and the opposition.

The head of the National Assembly read fragments of the documents signed on the Caribbean island in October and that established the norms to be followed by the parties, referring to the rejection of any form of political violence against Venezuela, its State and institutions, and foreign interference. Rodríguez addressed the United States Government and stated that the document expressly states that “external interference of any kind is not accepted.”

By now they (the Americans) should know that “we are not interested in your intentions to interfere in matters that only concern Venezuelans, take care of your country,” he emphasized.

He also confirmed that “rain, shine or lightning” this year there will be presidential elections and on January 10, 2025, as established by the Constitution, the elected President will take office before the National Assembly.
