Iraqi officials denounce US attacks against Iraqi military units

Baghdad, Jan 24 (Prensa Latina) The spokesman for the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasoul, denounced the resumption of United States air attacks against sites of military units in Iraq.

Rasoul issued a statement emphasizing that the attacks against army and Popular Mobilization Forces bases in the areas of Jurf Al-Nasr and Al-Qaim show a clear determination to damage Iraq’s security and stability.

The Major General stressed that recent US attacks hinder the future relationship and missions of the members and advisors of the international coalition in Iraq. He also pointed out that the attacks undermine agreements and various sectors of joint security cooperation.

The spokesman described this act as unacceptable, which violates national sovereignty and contributes to an irresponsible escalation amid the danger of an expansion of the conflict after the Israeli aggression in Gaza and the consequences of the war of extermination faced by the Palestinian people.

While the main powers, including the United States, remain silent regarding these crimes, Washington is sliding towards reprehensible and unjustified aggressive actions against Iraqi territory and national sovereignty, Rasoul said, and called on the international community to fulfill its responsibility to support peace and security, in addition to avoid all violations that threaten the stability and sovereignty of Iraq.

Rasoul reaffirmed that the airstrikes will be treated as acts of aggression, and necessary measures will be taken to preserve the lives and dignity of Iraqis in their land.

National security advisor Qassim Al-Araji stated on X that instead of bombing and attacking the headquarters of an Iraqi national institution, the United States ought to act to stop the advance of aggression against Gaza.
