Uruguayan party describes Israeli aggression in Gaza as genocidal

Montevideo, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) Uruguayan political party Popular Unity demanded on Tuesday an end to what it described as Israel's genocidal policy against the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip.

The statement denounced the bombings carried out by the Israeli army for more than 100 days in that occupied Arab territory.

More than 24,000 people were killed, and more than 60,000 were wounded. In the West Bank, 360 people were killed, and more than 4,000 were injured, according to the statement that mentioned data from the Palestinian Embassy in Montevideo.

Almost two million people have been displaced, and 60 percent of homes have been cowardly and barbarically destroyed, Popular Unity added.

The text described as “exemplary” the complaint filed by the South African Government before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague against the continued Israeli airstrikes on the Palestinian people.

At the same time, it rejected the statements and positions of the Uruguayan Government on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
