Brazilian Government presents new industrial policy until 2033

Brasilia, Jan 22 (Prensa Latina) The National Council for Industrial Development (CNDI) is meeting at the Planalto Palace, headquarters of the Executive Branch, in order to approve the policy called New Industry Brazil, which outlines the path of Brazil's development until 2033.

During the meeting, the Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, will deliver the new policy with the action plan for the period 2024-2026, to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The policy was developed throughout the second half of 2023 by the members of the CNDI, which comprises 20 ministries, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development, 21 representative entities of civil society, the productive sector and workers.

According to the newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo, the program has goals and guidelines in sectors such as agribusiness, health, infrastructure, digital transformation, bioeconomy and defense technology. Some of them are focused on achieving autonomy in the production of 50 percent of critical technologies for Defense in 2033 and increasing the participation of the agro-industrial sector’s Gross Domestic Product to 50 percent.

Also according to Folha, favorable credit lines are among the strategies so that companies may assume services and works of the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) and contracts with government purchases.

Among the public procurement instruments, the Interministerial Commission on Innovations and Acquisitions of the New PAC will define the sectors in which the procuerment of national manufactured products and services may be required.

The Government may also adopt margins of preference for these purchases by the public power, even if their price exceeds that of competing imported items.
