Bukele bets for El Salvador to be the safest country in the world

San Salvador, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) A streak of 13 consecutive days without homicides led today the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, to bet on becoming the safest country in the world.

After reaching 13 consecutive days without homicides in January and 532 since he took office, the president wrote on social networks “On the way to being the safest country in the world”, something that is based on the effectiveness of the Territorial Control Plan, which has been extended 22 times.

In this regard, the National Civil Police (PNC) reported that on January 17 there were no murders attributable to gangs, bringing the total to 14 so far this month.

On Tuesday, January 9, the exception regime was extended, which will be in force during the February 4 elections, and must be extended on a date close to the 10th of that month when it expires.

In the year that ended the country registered an average of 0.4 victims per day, which is considered the main achievement of the current government and an essential card to win in the next elections.

The year 2023 closed as the safest year in Salvadoran history, after ending with a rate of 2.4 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, a figure very distant from the one that ended in 2015 when it was 106.82 per 100,000 inhabitants.
