The first phase of the National Maritime Coordination and Surveillance Center, in Barra de Cuanza, in Luanda, was completed and its inauguration was attended by President João Lourenço.

The head of State pointed out that although there are still things to be done, the facility is already operational, and assured that the regional centers of Lobito, in Benguela province, and Namibe, in the territory of the same name, should be concluded before the end of the year.

In 2023, the president inaugurated a center in Soyo, in Zaire province.

Lourenço pointed out that the second phase of the National Center is not decisive to become operational, since it has to do with the construction of the residential area.

The Angolan leader noted that this is part of the modernization being promoted in the Army and the Navy in particular, where investments are made not only in land infrastructures, but also in the purchase of modern vessels.

He mentioned the renovation of the Soyo and Luanda naval bases, and said that the construction of Angola’s largest naval base will start soon.

The National Maritime Coordination and Surveillance Center is budgeted at about 70 million dollars and was designed to be the ‘eyes’ of the Angolan Navy and better respond to the challenges of the sector, including the protection of the country’s Exclusive Maritime Economic Zone, which has an area of some 200 nautical miles.
