Bolivia to present results addressing drug trafficking

La Paz, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of the Government of Bolivia, Eduardo del Castillo, will lead the ceremony during which the results of the fight against drug trafficking in 2023 will be presented.

The Bolivian president, Luis Arce, recently described as historic the seizure of 8.7 tons of cocaine by the Drug Trafficking Fighting Special Force, which was to be sent to Europe camouflaged in wood. “Our work committed to the Homeland is achieving historic results in the struggle against drug trafficking. We inform the Bolivian people and the international community that we seized 8.7 tons of cocaine (…),” the President wrote on X.

According to a preliminary report, nine raids were carried out, and four properties were seized.

“The investigations continue. The impact of this crime, in the country of destination, exceeds 526 million dollars, being the largest seizure of cocaine in the history of Bolivia,” the dignitary said.

Eduardo del Castillo confirmed in a press conference that one of those involved is a Colombian national. He is described him as a “big shot” in drug trafficking. Castillo mentioned that three Bolivians were also arrested in the operation, and added that “This is intelligence work which has been carried out for a couple of months to dismantle this criminal organization (…) we have managed to grab a total of eight tons with 776 kilograms of cocaine from drug traffickers” he said.

However, despite these results, the United States Government issued a unilateral memorandum last September decertifying Bolivia in its fight against drug trafficking for the sixteenth consecutive time.

“The United States, Castillo considered, instead of assuming non-corresponding powers, should become aware of what is happening within its own territory in terms of excessive consumption of illicit drugs which causes an uncontrolled increase in international demands.
