The General Manager and engineer Manuel Mejia Naut, pointed out that this program, conceived by the Government and boosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Police, seeks to benefit mainly the most vulnerable population sectors.
Since the beginning of these actions in November, the crime rate has decreased during the evening hours in the benefited areas, as reported by the authorities at the end of December.
At a meeting with leaders of neighborhood councils in Santo Domingo Norte, near the El Higüero sector, Naut pledged to address fundamental issues that will have a positive impact on people’s security and improve their way of life.
He cleared that “we have not come to promise a solution to all the problems which go back decades and which require substantial investments,” but he assured that they will place a lamp wherever they can.
In November, when the program for the installation of LED lights initiated, the Minister of Interior and Police Jesus Vasquez underscored that some 120,000 will be installed in the most vulnerable streets of the country in order to defuse delinquency.
