A statement from the Arab League indicated that the general secretary, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received the Chinese Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, with whom he spoke about “the dangerous and accelerated situation in the Strip.”
In addition to demanding an end to Israeli aggression, the statement called for implementing the relevant resolutions issued by the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly on the situation in Gaza, as well as increasing the delivery of humanitarian aid, and noted that the international community must act to promote calm and a ceasefire as soon as possible.
The statement stressed the need for any future agreement to adhere to the principle of “the government of Palestine for the Palestinians” and the need to work towards internal reconciliation of the Palestinian people. It also supported a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians based on the two-state solution.
China and the Arab League called for an international conference as soon as possible to create a binding roadmap on the issue to promote such a project.
