This was stated to Prensa Latina by members of the organization who participated this weekend in the traditional Hugs Festival, called by the Communist Party in the capital’s Parque O’Higgins.
“Historically we have been present at the main national cultural and political event organized by a party,” said the president of the Coordinator of Solidarity with Cuba, Carlos Lagos.
He explained that every year many friends of the island visit the stand, aware of the need to support a country that has been in solidarity with all the peoples of the world and particularly with the Chilean people.
Lagos recalled the friendship that existed between the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and President Salvador Allende, which – he said – transcends and also becomes part of those who are at this party.
He reported that this year the XXVIII National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will take place, which will take place in the city of Valdivia and will have the participation of delegates from all over the country, from Arica to Punta Arenas.
Pedro Bronzic, a member of the coordinator, referred to the origin of the Hugging Festival in the 1980s, even in times of the dictatorship, when many met clandestinely to know that they were alive.
Here we gather communist militants and friends from the left and progressives to wish each other success and continue working for solidarity, he expressed.
And he added: “we are fighting to achieve the end of the criminal blockade against Cuba and the genocide in Gaza. That is our job and we will be there.”
Solidarity with Cuba and Palestine is present in numerous stands located throughout the park.
Collectives supporting Cuba such as December 2, the Internationalists and Siboney, among others, also participate in the Hugs Festival.
