Yhonny García, coordinator of the solidarity group, declared that the event scheduled for November 24 to 26 was postponed due to the “commitment of the Venezuelan people” to attend the consultative referendum in defense of Guayana Esequiba.
More than 10.5 million people participated in this popular consultation, called by the National Assembly on December 3.
He pointed out that they have already resumed the organizational, logistical and participation aspects, in a meeting that will turn the city of Maracay, Aragua, north central state, into the center of solidarity with the island.
This 13th Meeting is of great importance for the consolidation of solidarity between our peoples, the strengthening of the bridge of friendship and historic brotherhood between Venezuela and Cuba, García declared weeks ago to Prensa Latina.
The Friendship Movement held a virtual meeting the day before with the participation of the regional coordinators, in which they established the work agenda for 2024 and took stock of 2023.
The national coordination, made up of García, Inés Luiggi and María Elena Quintero, congratulated last year’s management.
They highlighted the active participation of youth, with leaders already in many regions of the country, as an extremely important achievement of 2023, and that will be consolidated in 2024. They also recalled that 18 young Venezuelans traveled to Cuba last December as part of the Caribbean Youth Brigade.
Luiggi alluded to the activities to be carried out in the current year and mentioned among the closest the celebrations for the 171st anniversary of the birth of the Cuban National Hero, José Martí, which will take place at the end of this month.
Quintero, for her part, referred to the III flight of the Bolívar Martí Solidarity, the visits to the states and the preparation of the different volunteer work brigades.
He highlighted the Friendship Movement is an expression of the commitment, love and solidarity of Venezuela with the “brother people of Cuba” and turned the dreams of commanders Hugo Chávez (1954-2013) and Fidel into a “beautiful reality” of participation and brotherhood. Castro (1926-2016).
