USA 2024: Joe Biden tops Donald Trump in Pennsylvania

Washington, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) President Biden polled ahead of former President Trump in Pennsylvania, a pivotal battleground state the president won in 2020, according to a survey released Wednesday.

The new poll from Quinnipiac University found Biden received 49% support and that Trump received 46% support from voters in the swing state.

The 3-point lead over Trump comes after the former president received 47% support and President Biden received 45% support in Pennsylvania in a Quinnipiac University poll in October.

In a Franklin & Marshall College poll of Pennsylvania voters that same month, however, Biden beat Trump by 2%, with 44% saying they favored the president compared with 42% for Trump.

President Biden took Pennsylvania in 2020 after Trump won the state in 2016. Joe Biden typically has traveled to the state for big events, including speeches focused on democracy or for a campaign rally, and considers the state a second home to him. First lady Jill Biden is a Philadelphia-area native.

Biden is set to travel to Pennsylvania on Friday and visit the Allentown area for a speech on his economic agenda.

When independent and Green Party candidates were included in the new Quinnipiac University poll, Biden received 41% support, Trump received 39% support and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. received 11% support.

Meanwhile, Green Party candidate Jill Stein received 4% support, and independent candidate Cornel West received 2% support.

Among Republican primary candidates, Trump received 61% support in Pennsylvania, compared with 14% for former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and 10% for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. The poll is the first time Haley has numerically surpassed DeSantis in any Quinnipiac University poll, according to Quinnipiac.

Nationally, the aggregation of polls kept by Decision Desk HQ and The Hill shows Trump with a lead of 1.2% points over Biden.

Quinnipiac surveyed 1,680 Pennsylvania voters Jan. 4-8 with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4%.
