A communiqué issued by the Foreign Affairs Secretariat states that ‘the Government of Mexico follows with concern the latest events in the sister Republic of Ecuador, which keep certain areas of the country in a delicate security situation’.

The South American nation is currently in the midst of an ‘internal armed conflict’ and a ‘state of exception’ declared as a result of an unusual wave of violence linked to drug trafficking and state inefficiency, according to analysts.
This is the first crisis faced by President Daniel Noboa, who took office less than two months ago with the promise to attack with an iron fist the groups linked to drug trafficking and yesterday labeled about twenty of these organizations as ‘terrorists’.
