The threat of high temperatures covers most of the national territory from this Monday to Wednesday; the thermometer could reach around 45 degrees Celsius in some regions, Paraguay’s Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) announced.
The extreme heat threatens Paraguay’s Chaco region and other western departments; it is expected to affect several eastern territories, which will depend on the percentage of humidity, a special weather forecast bulletin of that entity adds.
Temperatures should drop as of Thursday due to heavy rains from Wednesday, accompanied by thunderstorms, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology stated.
The Paraguayan summer lasts from December to March, when the weather is usually warm and humid. Although the average annual temperature is 20 degrees Celsius due to its proximity to the Tropic of Capricorn, it is now rising due to the global climate crisis.
