African Commission praises Angola´s child protection laws worldwide

Wilson-de-Almeida-Adao
Luanda, Jan 6 (Prensa Latina) The Chairman of the African Commission on Human Rights and Child Welfare, Wilson de Almeida Adão, on Saturday recognized Angola's laws on child protection, Jornal de Angola newspaper reported.

According to Adão, Angola has one of the best child protection laws worldwide, although it faces other challenges on the way to make children’s rights a reality.

On Friday, at the end of a meeting with Ombudsman Florbela Araújo, Adão pointed out that Angola lives in political and military stability, so that from this standpoint nothing prevents a country from conducting certain public actions; however, it has other challenges including historical, sociological, economic and social issues which require permanent work, especially in the reinforcement of social protection policies for families, the struggle against multidimensional poverty and in access to education.

Adão insisted on the impact of the child protection law on minors´ lives, especially those who are victims of sexual abuse.

In this regard, Adão called on competent institutions to be promoters for the protection of children’s rights in Angola and regionally.
