Prensa Latina’s commitment to truthful information

PLTV-15
Havana, Jan 5 (Prensa Latina) From January 20 to 24, dozens of ministers of information, media executives, journalists and other personalities will meet in Havana within the framework of the New Operation Truth forum.

Organized by the Latin American news agency Prensa Latina, the event will be an opportunity to discuss the challenges of communication in present times and the construction of a New International Information Order, to counter the dissemination of fake news.

In addition to exchanging ideas with Cuban authorities and experts, attendees will be able to take advantage of an interesting program of visits to places of interest in Cuba.

The meeting will also commemorate the 65th anniversary of the original Operation Truth, called by historic leader Fidel Castro to denounce hostile campaigns against the fledging Cuban Revolution.

Considered then the largest press conference in the world, more than 400 foreign journalists gathered in Havana for that January 1959 event. They were able to personally verify the reality of the nascent Cuban political process, which was already the target of huge smear campaigns coming from the United States.

That massive press conference also highlighted the need for Latin America and the Caribbean to have their own voice in an information scenario dominated by large foreign journalistic monopolies.

Five months later, Prensa Latina news agency was created on June 16. It is celebrating 65 years of uninterrupted work in the service of truth.

Recognized worldwide by its acronym PL, it is still considered a true school for journalists who have the benefits of technological progress, but still continue to pay the price of defending the alternative to the hegemonic.

Currently, social projects contrary to the mandates of the West continue to face this hostile media scenario, through hybrid or fourth-generation warfare operations, amplified by social media platforms.

Periodically, Cuban authorities, experts and communication professionals denounce the launching of disinformation and libeling campaigns and operations from those platforms through the use of bots and psychological techniques to provoke a social outburst or denigrate the programs of the Revolution and its leaders.

In the face of these challenges, Cuba remains faithful to the commitment to the truth.

Also, in a context marked by disinformation and the propagation of fake news, it is vital that communication professionals attend this New Operation Truth.

In addition to reiterating this commitment to truthfulness, the forum will also serve to update and share new information techniques and make published content more attractive.
