In a televised message to wish a happy new year, the president mentioned the Covid-19 pandemic, the economic recovery and industrial modernization as some of the milestones of these months.
Xi noted that China will firmly advance modernization, and will implement the new philosophy of high-quality development and safeguard security.
He pointed out that the country will deepen reform and opening up in all areas and will further improve the people’s confidence in development, while promoting education, science and technology.
Xi added that China will support the two special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macao, to leverage their distinctive strengths and better integrate into the country’s overall developments.
He emphasized that China will certainly be reunified and that “all Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait must be united by a common sense of purpose and share the glory of the nation’s rejuvenation.”
Regarding interaction with the international community, he reiterated the commitment to peace, development and mutually beneficial cooperation.
Xi recalled that in 2023, the country hosted the China-Central Asia Summit and the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and welcomed leaders from around the world at many diplomatic events.
Furthermore, he highlighted the complex global scenario and the conflicts that persist, for which he pledged to work with other nations in building a community with a shared future for humanity.
“China’s ultimate goal is to provide a better life for the people,” he said, stressing the importance of fostering a warm and harmonious environment in society, as well as creating convenient and good living conditions.
In fact, at one point in his speech, the president acknowledged that it was a complex year for many citizens who faced problems finding jobs, as well as for companies that operated in a difficult environment.
At another time of his statement, the president praised China’s new creations and innovations, mentioning the large C919 airliner, the domestically produced cruise ship, the Shenzhou spacecraft and the Fendouzhe deep-sea manned submarine.
Meanwhile, domestically designed and manufactured products, especially fashion brands, were very popular among consumers, he added.
“The latest models of mobile phones made in China are an instant hit in the market. New energy vehicles, lithium batteries and photovoltaic products are a new testament to manufacturing prowess,” he emphasized.
Xi recalled that in 2024, the country will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, so he invited citizens to work together for the great national rejuvenation.
