The Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs met on Thursday with Alexander Beglov, governor of Saint Petersburg, in a meeting that Jaishankar described as “pleasant”. “We appreciate the support provided to promote economic cooperation and exchanges between the people of India and Russia,” Jaishankar posted on X.
Last Wednesday, the Indian diplomat held a meeting in Moscow with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, to whom he conveyed a cordial greeting and delivered a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the meeting, which Jaishankar considered an honor, the parties discussed previous meetings with Lavrov and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Commerce, Denis Manturov.
A protocol of bilateral consultations for the period 2024-2028 was signed during the gathering of the foreign ministers, and topics such as progress in economic cooperation, energy trade, connectivity efforts, technical-military collaboration and exchanges between peoples were addressed.
The parties also discussed the international situation and exchanged views related to the Indo-Pacific region, the conflict in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, Afghanistan and Central Asia, and analyzed political ties around BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the G20 and the UN.
Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Jaishankar earlier concluded agreements on nuclear energy and healthcare in the context of the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission.
