Among the groups that will participate are the General Confederation of Labor, the Classist and Combative Current, the Polo Obrero, the Piquetera Unit and the Association of State Workers, the Central Workers of Argentina, the Autonomous Central Workers of Argentina and the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy, among others.
Participants will also express their rejection of an adjustment plan, an anti-protest protocol and the Government’s decision not to renew State contracts signed after January 1st, 2024, which will affect around seven thousand people.
The DNU announced by Milei on December 20th provides for the disabling of hundreds of regulations, including rental, supply, land, industrial and commercial promotion laws. It also eliminates the regulations that prevent the privatization of public companies, approves the transformation of all State entities into public limited companies, provides for the reform of the labor regime, modifies the Civil and Commercial Code, changes the regulatory framework for prepaid medicine and social works, eliminates price restrictions on the prepaid industry and reforms the regime for pharmaceutical companies.
Politicians, deputies and organizations pointed out that these are unconstitutional measures, against the rule of law and the division of powers.
“The DNU subverts order by attempting to legislate with its back to Congress, which is composed by the people’s representatives. Any government plan that includes the modification, repeal or creation of regulations must go through the debate of senators and deputies,” said the General Confederation of Labor in a statement.
In the same sense, the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy indicated that this decree “overrides the other powers of the Republic in the name of a freedom tailored to the caste that they were supposed to overthrow.”
