At least 14 more fatalities due to rains in Angola

Luanda, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) At least 14 people died this weekend in Angola as a result of the rains that affect mainly the northern part of the country and continue today in some regions.

According to declarations to the Angolan Public Television by the spokesman of the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB), superintendent Felix Domingos, of the total of 27 fatalities in the last 72 hours, 14 are associated to the heavy rains.

The province of Cabinda is the one that reported the greatest damage so far, where five people lost their lives and 13 were injured, in addition to flooding in several localities and landslides.

In Huíla, Domingos detailed, the electric discharges caused the death of two people and five were injured; while in Lunda Sul there were also two fatalities due to the same atmospheric phenomenon.

This Monday, the province of Bengo is under alert for heavy rains and the situation of those living near the Dande river is of particular concern.

The SPCB spokesman said they are prepared to deal with probable emergencies and urged the population to maintain proper conduct and stay away from risk areas.
