Mexico City, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) The CELAC Climate Adaptation Fund presented at COP28 is already in operation and supports the work of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Office in Mexico.

This was announced by the Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, Joel Hernández García, at the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Foreign Ministry informed in a press release.

The text indicates that such support is coordinated with the local authorities of the state of Guerrero, to provide immediate assistance to children and adolescents of the communities affected by Hurricane Otis.

It points out that this fund is an initiative to implement projects promoting climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives in Latin America and the Caribbean and was presented only two days ago at COP28 by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and Mexico, and is already being implemented.

The speakers at the presentation agreed that Latin America and the Caribbean are the second most affected regions by disasters related to meteorological, hydrological, climatological and geophysical natural phenomena.

In this regard, they stressed the need to strengthen the fund with the support of the international community.
