Casa de America in Madrid begins a week dedicated to Leonardo Padura

Madrid, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) The Casa de America in Madrid started a tribute from Monday to December 15, devoted to Cuban writer Leonardo Padura as part of the Writer's Week, which will alternate with films, books, and conferences.

The organizers announced that the homage consists of several activities around his work and will conclude with a speech by Padura himself in the 28th edition of the Writer’s Week.

The event will begin tonight with the screening of the film “Vientos de La Habana” (Winds of Lent-2016) by Spanish filmmaker Félix Viscarret, in which prominent Cuban actor Jorge Perugorría plays the role of detective Mario Conde.

After the opening remarks by Casa de América’s director Enrique Ojeda, a colloquium will take place with Padura and filmmaker Viscarret, among other events.

The prolific Cuban writer’s recognition results in an original idea of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) that the Casa de America has organized since 2000 and is baptized as Writers’ Week.

Born in Havana in 1955, he won the Princess of Asturias Prize for Literature 2015 for his vast work.

Before, he had already achieved international recognition with his crime novels featuring detective Conde in “Pasado perfecto” (Havana Blue), “Vientos de Cuaresma” (Havana Gold), “Máscaras” (Havana Red), “Paisaje de otoño” (Havana Black), “Adiós, Hemingway” (Goodbye Hemingway), and “La Neblina del Ayer” (Havana Fever), among others.
