Israel launches missile strikes against south of Damascus

Damascus, Dec 11 (Prensa Latina) The air defense of the Syrian army repelled a new attack launched by the Israeli army against targets southeast of the capital.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, at 11:05 p.m. local time, Israeli fighter jets launched several missiles from the airspace of the occupied Golan against a number of targets south of Damascus.

Residents of the capital witnessed the interception of several missiles by air defense batteries deployed in the mountains surrounding Damascus.

The Ministry of Defense acknowledged that some missiles hit their targets, causing material damage.

Military sources indicated that two joint positions of the Syrian army and its Hezbollah allies in the town of Sayeda Zeinab were attacked; the attack also caused material damage to homes.

On November 26th an attack damaged facilities at the Damascus International Airport, putting it out of commission. Another attack on December 1st targeted positions in the south of Damascus, causing the death of two Iranian officers and four irregulars from the militias allied to the Syrian army. On December 5th, the air defense repelled an Israeli attack in Homs, in the center of the country.

At least four people lost their lives last Saturday due to an Israeli missile strike against a private vehicle in the province of Quneitra, about 60 kilometers southwest of the capital.

The Israeli military has already launched 48 attacks against Syrian territory this year. Israel justifies the attacks arguing that they are aimed at Iranian targets and the Lebanese Resistance Movement Hezbollah, while Syria assures that they cause casualties among the civilian population, to prolong the war, keep Syria unstable and weaken its Army.
