On Friday, Putin announced that he would run in the presidential election in March 2024.
In response to requests from participants in the ceremony for Heroes of Fatherland Day for taking part in elections Putin remarked that he had different thoughts on this score, but “today it is impossible to do otherwise” and he would agree to his nomination.
“United Russia is the president’s party, he founded it 22 years ago, stood at the origins of its creation and, obviously, United Russia will take the most active part in [Putin’s] election campaign, provide all its infrastructure, meaning the developed chains of our regional, local, primary offices.
Together with the People’s Front we will ensure all arrangements related to nomination, first of all, the collection of signatures [in support of] our candidate,” Turchak said at the meeting of the initiative group on Putin’s top nomination at the upcoming presidential vote.
Russia’s presidential election will be held over three days, on March 15-17, 2024. Putin, whose second consecutive and fourth cumulative term of office is expiring, is eligible to run again.
