The activity, which took place at the cultural center of the Russian Foreign Ministry, was attended by representatives of the Armed Forces, deputies of the Slavic nation, as well as veterans and Russian internationalist combatants, and the corps of military attachés accredited in Moscow.
In her words of remembrance, Cuba’s military attaché in the Eurasian country, Colonel Monica Milian, stressed the importance of the landing of the Granma and the creation of the Rebel Army, predecessor of the FAR to achieve the triumph of the Cuban Revolution on January 1, 1959.
Milian also recalled the imprint of the leaders of that heroic deed, who not only participated in it but also played a crucial role in the development of the capacities of the FAR, which today defend, together with the combative Cuban people, the social conquests and the internationalist work.
In turn, the head of the Main Directorate of International Collaboration of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Colonel Andrei Ujanov, highlighted the bonds of brotherhood between the peoples and armies of Russia and Cuba, which were forged from the very beginnings of the struggle of the Granma´s expedition. Among those brave 82 expeditionaries were men who would later become part of the history, and an important one in the links with the Soviet Union first and with Russia later, such as Fidel Castro, Raul Castro, and Ernesto Che Guevara’, Ulyanov pointed out.
As part of the tribute, a representation of 13 Russian internationalist fighters, who were military specialists in Cuba, received the Distinguished Service Medal awarded by the Armed Forces Minister.
During the tribute activity, a film material on the life and work of Fidel Castro, who inspired and founded the Revolutionary Armed Forces, was also screened.
