The official selection and the list of films registered in this category is made up of 13 works in competition, with Argentina and Brazil at the top of the list.
In the great film festival held every year in the Cuban capital, as the main venue, several co-productions from these countries and others from Europe, including Scandinavia, as well as collaborations with nations from the Asian continent, were added in this edition.
Some of these joint productions between two, three, four, and even eight countries are those presented by Argentina, with the film “Eureka”, by Lisandro Alonso, made with Portugal, Germany, France and Mexico.
The southern nation will also compete with the film “The Rise of the Human 3”, by Teddy Williams, a co-production between eight nations: three Latin American, the same number of Asian works and two European.
The 44th edition of the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema will take place until December 17 and its program includes several tributes, such as the one to the film ” Fresa y Chocolate” for the 30th anniversary of its premiere and also tributes to Cuban filmmaker Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, French filmmaker Max Linder and Spanish filmmaker Luis Buñuel.
