Salvadoran Vice President Félix Ulloa, on behalf of President Nayib Bukele, made the transfer of the pro tempore presidency of SICA to the Republic of Honduras, according to a press release.

During the 58th Ordinary Meeting of Heads of State and Government of SICA member countries, the number two of the Salvadoran government highlighted the unwavering commitment of his country to contribute to the strengthening of the region and move forward on the road to regional integration.

Among the advances made during the semester was the approval of the Regional Health Policy 2023-2030, which seeks, with the support of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO), to advance in disease prevention, promote healthy living and foster cooperation.

Ulloa also highlighted the launching of the Regional Master Plan for Mobility and Logistics 2035, which seeks to boost trade through a more effective road communication network and will entail a multi-million dollar investment.

Under the presidency of San Salvador, the activities of the regional agenda were maintained and contributed to strengthening spaces for dialogue on different topics, such as development models, migration, South-South and triangular cooperation, investment opportunities and international financing, youth, local authorities and consumer rights.

A few weeks ago, the Secretary General of SICA, Werner Vargas, from Nicaragua, resigned from his post. Now Managua will have to fill the vacancy and complete his mandate until 2027.

According to the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry, they will send a new proposal of candidates to assume the general secretariat of the organization.
