The general director of Bilateral Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Carlos Miguel Pereira, addressed the importance of the agreements in statements about the meeting between the presidents of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the UAE, Sheikh Mohamad Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
Pereira described the meeting held on Wednesday as historic, not only because it was the first visit by a Cuban leader to the UAE, but also because a result of the commitment between the parties to bring economic, commercial, and financial relations of cooperation to the same level of the political ones.
He informed that among the agreements signed were the ones for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments, and another aimed at avoiding double taxation, which is relevant for supporting the business sector in its investments in a given country.
Other agreements are related to climate change, tourism, science and technology, and sports.
Pereira stated that other agreements linked to business exchanges and possible deals could be signed during the course of the visit of the Cuban President.
Diaz-Canel wrote in his account on X about the meeting with the president of the UAE and the Emir of Abu Dhabi, stating that both parties confirmed the good state of relations between the two countries and the willingness to continue strengthening bilateral political dialogue.
