Uruguay and Cuba to strengthen solidarity

Montevideo, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and Uruguay share stories of solidarity forged in accompanying the Cuban Revolution, the vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) Noemi Rabaza assured on Monday.

“I found many good people who love and defend Cuba; a lot of gratitude and recognition to Fidel Castro,” Rabaza stated in conversation with Prensa Latina at the end of a visit to Uruguay, as part of a South American tour that will take her to Argentina and Chile.

There have been tough days in Uruguay, where she shared with Lilia Zamora, director of Latin America at ICAP.

It had been six years since an ICAP representative had visited Uruguay. Therefore, she said, they were days of meetings with friends from Cuba.

She referred to meetings with the Uruguayan Anti-imperialist Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and the Peoples of the World, with the solidarity chapter of the Maldonado Department and the Committee of Parque del Plata, in the Canelones Department.

The official commented on the meeting held with members of the Uruguayan contingent that in January will join the 29th South American Brigade of Voluntary Work and Solidarity with Cuba.

Rabaza praised the work conducted here by the Cuban medical brigade that provides medical services at the “Jose Marti” Eye Hospital, in Montevideo.

“Over 109,000 surgeries have been done by Cuban specialists on people with vision disorders in Uruguay. They are our health ambassadors,” she referred.

The authority explained that one of the goals of the visit was to explain to Cuba’s friends the adverse circumstances the nation is going through in the face of the tightened U.S. blockade.

“It is a hostility without limit and a policy of maximum pressure that affects above all the Cuban family,” she denounced.

“Therefore we have asked for political accompaniment, the denunciation of such genocide and concrete actions of cooperation that contribute to break the blockade,” she concluded.
