Academic ties strengthen universities in Canada and Cuba

Ottawa, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) Cuban and Canadian universities explored new possibilities of collaboration after a visit by a delegation of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) of Cuba to several provinces of this country, reports today a dispatch from the Cuban Embassy in Canada.

The delegation, composed of the general director of scientific research and postgraduate studies, Ondina León Díaz, and Maiky Díaz Pérez, head of the Department of Multilateral Affairs of the MES, visited in Montreal the universities of Quebec and Concordia, the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, the Quebec Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, and the Carleton and Ottawa centers of higher studies.

In meetings with Quebec academic staff, the officials reviewed the excellent relations existing in the fields of Spanish language teaching, urban planning, heritage, cancer prevention, environment and sustainable development with Cuban universities such as the University of Havana, Colegio San Jerónimo, Universidad Pedagógica Enrique José Varona and the University of Holguín.

“The delegation, which was accompanied by Cuban Consul General Susana Malmierca Benítez, offered information on the strengths of the Cuban university system in these topics that would allow expanding collaboration and cooperation. They were also invited to be part of the Cuban environmental network and the University Congress 2024”, the information details.
