Italian city of Milan pays tribute to Cuban leader Fidel Castro

Rome, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, was remembered at an emotional event in the northern Italian city of Milan, on the seventh anniversary of his death, a spokesman said on Monday.

Cuban Consul General in Milan Marcos Hernandez, told Prensa Latina that during the event, which took place on Sunday at the premises of the Spazio Ribelle, a political debate in Fidel’s honor was held under the slogan ‘Cuba and Our America: a hope for all humankind.’

The meeting, organized by the Network of Communists and the Alternative Student Organization (OSA) and Cambiare Rotta youth groups, together with the Cuban Consulate in Milan, was also attended by representatives of other political organizations, solidarity groups and the community of Cuban residents in Italy.

Participants recalled Fidel’s legacy and thinking and highlighted his revolutionary work, which has formed generations of citizens around the world who want a better world for humanity, Hernandez said.

Luciano Vasapollo, professor at La Sapienza University in Rome and a member of the Network of Communists, in turn, underscored the importance of the Cuban Revolution as an example for the development of other similar processes in other countries.

Referring to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, the professor underlined the value of his example, in particular ‘his will to fight for an ideal in spite of all adverse predictions, and to persist until victory was achieved.’

On the occasion of the anniversary of Fidel’s death, Vasapollo launched in Italy the No. 0 issue of the new magazine Nuestra America, of socio-political and cultural analysis of the Global South, which he had presented in Cuba on November 14 as a member of its editorial board.

In his speech, Hernández referred to Cuba’s achievements despite constant aggression by the United States, and the prestige achieved by Cuba on the basis of principles established throughout its history and under Fidel’s guidance, which are still in force.

Young Italians from OSA and Cambiare Rotta reaffirmed the current value of Fidel Castro’s thinking and work, as well as the example of the Cuban people’s struggle and resistance, to guide the new generations on the path to a better world.
