Venezuelan Football Federation condemns aggressions against its team

Caracas, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan Football Federation (FVF) strongly condemned the verbal and physical aggression, and acts of discrimination and xenophobia against its national team in Lima, Peru.

Our Federation will not tolerate, either inside or outside its borders, “any humiliating treatment to our players, members of the technical staff or supporters of our national team,” the FVF said in a statement on Wednesday.

It regretted that since the announcement of the match on Tuesday “unsportsmanlike actions were generated,” which were evident to the public opinion, media and soccer fans in general.

The Federation charged that they were subjected to clearly “anti-football” practices such as security measures that were “never seen before”, related to the verification of migration conditions to enter the stadium, which violates the human rights of our compatriots and the show.

It described as “very serious” that one of the players was injured by an official when approaching “our fans to give them a jersey.”

The FVF stated that this act is “absolutely normal and common” in any soccer match and that “it should not cause a police sanction such as the one imposed on our player.”

The text pointed out that outside the field “there were also actions that we must condemn” such as the sexist and pejorative comments made by a group of communicators on Venezuelan women, “something unspeakable and that we are not willing to allow.”

The Federation emphasized that these kinds of actions go directly against the spirit of sportsmanship and harmony that must always prevail in soccer and “our federation will fight them to the last consequences.”
