Cuban sport is alive and thriving, Díaz-Canel says

Havana, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) Despite all the vicissitudes Cuba is going through to develop sports, it is still alive, thriving, and is currently the best in the world, President Miguel Díaz-Canel said.

The Cuban president made this remark at a meeting on Tuesday evening with athletes with exemplary performances in the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, coaches, commissioners, and sports figures who also attended the international multi-sport event.

The head of State noted that Cuba has experienced exciting and gratified moments when seeing how the athletes gave themselves to the competition “with dignity and, above all, with overwhelming results in a group of sports.”

Díaz-Canel emphasized that Cuba’s fifth place by nations in the Pan American Games was the result of tenacity, effort, and talent, the Presidency of the Republic wrote on its X account.

As if that were not enough, our para-athletes are also giving tremendous performances; I believe they will exceed predictions, Díaz-Canel added.

The Cuban president closely follows his country’s performance in the multi-sport events and acknowledges and congratulates the protagonists of Cuba’s victories on his social media.

Until Tuesday, Cuba had won eight titles, four silver medals, and seven bronze medals in the Parapan American Games, totaling 19 and ranking seventh in the table of medals by countries.
