India to preside over G20 virtual summit

New Delhi, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) India will chair the virtual Summit of the Group of 20 (G20), its last meeting as leader of the group

The representative of the Indian government for the organization of the meeting, Sherpa Amitabh Kant, considered the summit as one of the most important since the conclusion of the High Level Week of the Seventy-eighth Session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Summit for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

According to him, this is an opportunity to debate the implementation of the declaration adopted unanimously at the Summit held on September 9 and 10 of this year, in New Delhi, share points of view to improve cooperation due to the critical challenges facing the world and addressing gaps in global governance. It will also serve to reaffirm the commitment to the SDGs and move towards a revitalized and better positioned multilateral system with a positive impact on people’s lives.

Kant recalled that the meeting was convened by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi during the closing of the gathering in New Delhi with the objective of following up on the proposals and guidelines provided by the countries of the economic bloc and to boost the implementation of the results of the Delhi Summit.

The virtual G20 Leaders’ Summit will be the last meeting organized under India’s presidency, as Brazil will take over the leadership of the bloc from December 1. However, India will remain part of the troika during 2024 along with South Africa.
