South Africa calls for immediate and complete ceasefire in Gaza

Pretoria, Nov 21 (Prensa Latina) South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa called on Tuesday for an immediate and complete ceasefire in the Palestine-Israel conflict, specifically regarding Israel's warlike actions in Gaza.

The head of State also urged to establish humanitarian corridors to ensure aid and other basic services for all those in need in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at the Extraordinary Joint Brics Leaders’ Meeting, the South African leader also called on all “countries to exercise restraint and desist from fueling the conflict, even by ceasing the supply of arms to the parties.”

In his speech, Ramaphosa demanded the release of all civilian hostages in Gaza.

During his participation in the virtual Summit, the president called for the resumption of comprehensive talks led and owned by the Palestinians and Israelis and facilitated by the United Nations, as well as the deployment of a UN Rapid Deployment Force in Palestine, with the task of monitoring the end of hostilities and the protection of civilians.

Finally, he called on the International Criminal Court to urgently prosecute those responsible for the perpetration of war crimes.

Ramaphosa recalled that the Brics, as an important voice of the Global South that represents a large part of humanity, has a vital role to play in an international effort to achieve just and lasting peace.
