Prominent PRI leader resigns from that Mexican party

Captura-47-768x510
Mexico, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) A prominent leader of Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) and former Governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, announced his irrevocable resignation from the party.

The news was published by local media on Saturday, as part of the schism that the party is going through after accepting the impositions of the National Action Party (PAN), as it is the first time that the PRI runs in a presidential election without its own candidate and backs the candidate of a former enemy such as the PAN.

Murat stated that his decision is because he cannot be involved in something that does not define him as a person or as a politician, which does not correspond to the vision of Mexico that encourages him to continue participating in public life.

Murat recalled the warning from Luis Donaldo Colosio, the presidential candidate assassinated in the late 20th century under suspicious conditions that the PRI has not cleared yet.

Donaldo Colosio warned that Mexico does not want either political adventures or leaps into the void. Thus, Murat announced the foundation of the Progressive Alliance for Mexico, which will be an open space for discussion, dialogue and reflection, in which all Mexicans without distinction can participate, with the sole goal of contributing to the creation of the country’s model we deserve.

He insisted that the least Mexico needs now is the politics of fear and hatred as an electoral strategy to win an election, and in the end, in the 2024 process, we will find ourselves in the dilemma of choosing to participate between the politics of cynicism and the politics of hope.
