The National Police announced in a preliminary report that Franco was hit in the hip, when a hooded man got out of a car and shot him.
The candidate for vice mayor arrived by his own means at the Nicolás Solano Hospital, where he died shortly after.
The police are still unable to locate the perpetrators of the crime, while the Homicide and Femicide Section of the Prosecutor’s Office of West Panama is carrying out the investigation. Franco was Abdiel Medina’s running mate, candidate for mayor of La Chorrera for Realizando Metas.
With his death, this is the second murder of a politician with firearms in a week.
Last November 7, Cesar Caballero, representative of Belisario Porras and president of the Municipal Council of San Miguelito, was also shot in front of the door of his house in Jardines de Sevilla.
