Ecuadorian province alerts increase in dengue infections

Quito, Nov 14 (Prensa Latina) The Ecuadorian province of Manabí is today approaching seven thousand dengue infections, leading the statistics of the Ministry of Public Health nationwide.

According to the health agency, these data keep cities like Manta on alert, where 2,277 sick persons have been registered so far, a figure higher than in 2022, when 690 cases were reported.

Due to this disease transmitted by mosquito bites, three deaths have already been reported. According to the Ministry, the victims have been children and adolescents.

For Kelvin Carranza, from the Department of International Health Control of the Ministry of Health, there are determining factors that contribute to the increase in cases, such as the rainy season, the strong winter here and the El Niño phenomenon.

Last week, Ecuador surpassed 23 thousand dengue fever patients and with the arrival of the climatic event the cases will increase, warned the specialists.

This figure is the highest in the last seven years in this South American nation, according to the medical community, as there is an increase of 42 percent this year compared to the 16,402 registered in 2022 throughout the national territory.
