The Iranian diplomat who presented his country’s stance categorically rejected Washington’s policy that limits the Caribbean nation’s possibilities for growth, foreign investments in its territory and its relations with third states.
“In all its years of application the blockade has not benefited anyone”, he stressed, and added that for many years the international community, united in the General Assembly, has urged not to apply measures that go against the UN Charter and International Law.
“Despite the call to respect the sovereignty of States, non-interference, non-intervention and freedom of international trade and navigation, Cuba continues to be subjected to an illegitimate and immoral blockade that limits its inalienable right to development,” he remarked.
Iran opposes any unilateral coercive measure against a sovereign country, he emphasized, adding that the extraterritoriality of the economic siege is a violation of the right of all nations to cooperate with Havana.
He mentioned that his country has been a target of the United States, “of its inhumane and illegal actions”, which have exponentially increased over the years, including the blockade on the import of medical equipment destined for Iran.
He stated that Washington continues to threaten other nations with the imposition of coercive measures and called for the creation of a new environment in which each country can follow its interests and fulfill its international obligations.
The world must find a solution to fight against these situations that alter multilateral relations, the diplomat stressed and made a global call to force the United States to immediately and fully comply with its obligations.
Full solidarity with Cuba, the Iranian official stressed.
