UN agency warns of desperate situation in Gaza Strip

Gaza-2
Ramallah, Nov 2 (Prensa Latina) The civilian population in the Gaza Strip currently faces a desperate situation due to displacement, food shortages, widespread destruction of homes and infrastructures, and the collapse of the health system, the United Nations warned.

Those are just some of the enormous challenges the residents of the enclave are facing amid intensified Israeli attacks, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) stated in a press release.

The UN agency denounced that 70 of its workers have been killed by Israeli bombs since October 7.

“The provision of humanitarian assistance is difficult due to the lack of fuel, continuous bombardment, and the destruction of infrastructure,” it stressed.

UNRWA noted that since the hostilities broke out, more than 8,500 Palestinians have lost their lives, and 21,500 were injured in the enclave, in addition to 1,400 Israelis or foreigners.

An estimated 1.4 million people have been displaced due to the airstrikes in the Strip; almost half of them are in our shelters or schools, it stated.

The UN agency reported that the health system in that territory has collapsed; at least 130 health workers have been killed, and numerous hospitals and medical centers closed.
