Addressing those present during the debate on the resolution on the need to end the United States economic blockade against Cuba, the Zimbabwean representative highlighted how the blockade continues to be a notable obstacle to Cuba’s economic growth.
It hinders, he added, the full realization of the potential of its population, as well as the achievement of the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.
The continuation of this “hateful policy”, which has no place in the current geopolitical sphere and international law, has caused Cuba setbacks in sectors such as education, health and sustainable development.
The blockade also prevents Cuba from participating in international initiatives aimed at combatting the multiple crises facing humanity.
Consequently, he emphasized, we reiterate our call for the Blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba to be lifted immediately and unconditionally.
Its imposition, he added, undermines the principle of multilateralism, as well as the very foundations of the United Nations.
The diplomat also called on the international community to redouble its efforts to lift the blockade, in line with Luanda’s position that it is essential that the principles of international law and the charter of the United Nations be respected. ef/ro/mv
