The representatives of the two countries discussed the 28th Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (28th COP), scheduled from November 30 to December 12 in the United Arab Emirates, and the Summit of leaders of the G77+China on this issue, slated for December 2.
Ferrer explained that the upcoming meeting of the G77+China on climate change, convened by Cuba in its capacity of president of that group, is the first of its kind to be held in the framework of a COP meeting, the Cuban Embassy in Mongolia reported.
He stressed the importance of the meeting of the countries of the South, based on their experiences to face climate change and agree on their priorities in this regard.
Among the prioritized issues on the agenda of the global meeting, the Cuban diplomat mentioned the operability of the Climate Change Loss and Damage Fund, the definition of the framework for the adaptation objective, and the establishment of a new climate finance target, according to the Cuban Embassy in Mongolia.
Ferrer recalled that tackling climate change requires resources that most of the countries of the South do not have and that the previous goal of mobilizing no less than 100 billion dollars a year until 2020 was never met.
The diplomat noted the importance of Mongolia’s contribution to these meetings, which will host the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) of the Convention to Combat Desertification in 2026, the Cuban ambassador pointed out.
