In September, 868 people were reported with the disease, accounting for 16 percent fewer new cases compared to August.
“The most affected regions in September 2023, ordered by number of cases, were Western Pacific, Europe, Southeast Asia, the Americas, and Africa,” the international organization stated.
The significant increase in the number of mpox cases in Europe in September compared with previous months is striking,” it noted.
From January 1, 2022, to September 30, 2023, an estimated of 91,123 laboratory-confirmed mpox cases, including 157 deaths, were reported in 115 countries.
The United States, Brazil, Spain, France, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, the United Kingdom, Germany, and China are the most affected countries.
