Ortiz was a doctor in Philological Sciences, professor at the University of Havana, professor of merit at the Enrique José Varona Higher Pedagogical Institute and National Labor Hero of the Republic of Cuba.

She was one of the founders and the only female panelist on “Escriba y Lea” (Write and Read) which has been broadcast uninterruptedly since 1969.

It is a television program that has helped, guided and stimulated many generations of Cubans in the search for knowledge and general culture.
