Agricultural problems revealed in Cuba due to U.S. measures

Havana, Oct 26 (Prensa Latina) Orlando Diaz, director of International Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture (Minag) of Cuba, revealed today the impact of U.S. measures against the agricultural sector in Cuba.

In statements to Granma newspaper published this Thursday, the functionary pointed out that from March 2022 to February 2023, the accumulated damages in this sector amount to 273 million 390 thousand 80 dollars, almost three million more compared to the period 2021 to 2022.

Such figures reveal the intensification of Washington’s hostile policy against Havana, in such a relevant economic segment that has to do with feeding the people.

He pointed out that the TabaCuba Business Group concentrates the largest volume of the effects, and emphasized that as a result of the coercive Torricelli Law, many shipping companies do not touch Cuban ports, so their imports and exports have had to make transshipments in other countries, which increases the cost per freight.

Particularly damaging for business activity, he said, is the impossibility of placing Cuban products in the U.S. market, where higher income could be obtained for the country.
