Cuban university hosts Workshop on Homeland, Symbols and Identity

Matanzas, Cuba, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) The University of Matanzas (UM) is hosting the 14th edition of the National Workshop Homeland, Symbols and Identity, with the participation of students, professors and scholars of the subject in the territory.

Aimed at deepening on the elements that make up the national identity and contribute to the expansion of the general integral culture of Cuban university students, the workshop, to take place on Wednesday and Thursday, will focus on the socialization of works and papers related to these issues.

The general coordinator of the meeting, Doctor of Science Haydee Acosta, explained that on this occasion more than 70 papers were presented by 110 authors, including 30 students, which is a source of joy for the university.

The workshop offers the possibility of exposing through works aspects such as the feelings of the country about the unfair, cruel and genocidal blockade of the United States against Cuba, a conduct that stops in its entirety the country’s possibility of development, Acosta said.

UM Vice Rector for Research and Post-Graduate Studies María de Lourdes Artola, PhD, thanked the professors and students for attending the event in order to discuss criteria for strengthening the feeling of Cuban citizenship and the nation’s sense of identity.

Among the most relevant topics to be discussed at the event are globalization and its impact on the identity culture of the peoples, tourism and its influence on the culture and identity of the different nations and cultural manifestations as symbols of the Cuban nation.

The 14th edition of the National Workshop on Homeland, Symbols and Identity is an unavoidable opportunity to exchange criteria and experiences on Cuba’s current situation and to raise our voices once again against the unfair blockade against Cuba, which does not prevent the country’s constant desire to grow, but does limit its potential.
