Mexico vaccinates 1.7 million people against Covid-19 and influenza

Mexico, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) Mexico last week kicked off the new combined winter vaccination campaign against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes Covid-19, and influenza, and has already vaccinated 1.7 million people.

The information was provided on Tuesday, at the morning press conference at the National Palace, by the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Ruy López Ridaura, who replaced Hugo López-Gatell, who is running to lead the Government of Mexico City.

Lopez Ridaura explained that this is a combined influenza and Covid-19 vaccine campaign, the latter with Cuba’s Abdala and Russia’s Sputnik V vaccines, whose efficacy has already been more than proven.

He added that on this occasion it is not a universal vaccination, but only the population at risk, the first group of them being the elderly over 60 years of age, and a week ago the campaign began in all 32 federal states.

Lopez Ridaura noted that 19.4 million citizens are expected to be vaccinated. There is a second unquantified group from 5 to 69 years of age that may be at risk, and two other groups, including healthcare personnel and pregnant women, who are also at high risk.
